4. Apply the new caulk. Open the caulk tube with scissors. Do not cut the opening too large for you are likely to smear the other parts of the tub. Load the tube in a caulking gun for a more professional output. Before finally using the caulk on your tub, you may want to test the gun on a cardboard. This will allow you to feel the gun and the rate at which the caulk will flow.
5. When you are ready, gently apply the seal around the desired area. Hold the gun at a 45-degree angle. Make sure that you apply enough caulk for excess sealant is difficult to remove. Do not stop until you reach the corner of the tub. 6. After applying the caulk, wet your finger and run it along the caulk to smooth it out. This is called tooling. Avoid pressing too hard. You may use latex gloves if you are using silicon caulk. Gently remove the tape to avoid scraping the rest of the caulk. 7. Allow the bathtub seal to dry for up to three days before exposing the tub to water. 8. Congratulate yourself for doing a great job. A good seal around the bathtub should last for a couple of years. Make sure to check occasionally for possible leakage. |
